Sandboxes on trailer to fill the sand tanks of subways, trams, passenger and freight train engines.
The Baldi SND 200 sandboxes mounted on towable trailers supply sand to the tanks of passenger, freight, tram and subway trains.
Thanks to nozzles that distribute screened sand specially treated for railway use, the grip between the wheels and the tracks increases significantly when the tractor accelerates, brakes or climbs a slope.
As a result, the train becomes more efficient because the energy produced by the engine is transmitted to the wheels more effectively.
Dispensing controlled by hopper
The Baldi SND 200 sandboxes transfer the sand to the train tank using a dedicated gun that connects to the inlet of the tractor. The pressure generated – approximately 1.5 bar – transfers the sand from the sandpit to the train’s tank. Power is guaranteed by a 24 Volt electric motor which in turn activates a compressor. The compressed air cylinder operates at high pressure – 6 atm. – and thanks to the vigorous thrust generated by the pressure, it enters the hopper and delivers the sand in a controlled and constant way.

The Baldi SND 200 sandboxes are equipped with a system that completely sucks up dust and prevents harmful inhalation by the technician responsible for loading the train’s sand tank.
Overfill and overempty sensors
Sensors are installed on the hopper which constantly monitor the level of sand contained. When the level drops below the minimum threshold, the sensors deactivate the dispensing nozzle and activate an acoustic alarm to signal the need for refueling. On the contrary, if the level exceeds the maximum threshold, a light indicator turns on to warn the operator of a possible overload.

Tank with 200 litres of screened sand
The tank of the Baldi SND 200 sandboxes has a capacity of 200 liters of screened sand, which allows a supply of up to 5 hours in relation to the battery installed on the electric tractor. Baldi SND 200 sandboxes guarantee constant performance for the entire time of use and in all operating conditions.
The sandboxes are installed on specific trailers produced by Baldi (see photo above) and can also be fixed to the platform of normal electric tractors. The supply hoses – wound on an on-board support when not in use – are 4 and a half meters long and allow you to work on the platform and in the workshop at a distance of approximately 4 meters from the train.
